A Look Back at the FINA Championships

To understand the history of the FINA World Aquatics Championships, we first need to look at the formation of the governing body itself, FINA. In English, this stands for the International Swimming Federation. FINA is the international organisation that oversees aquatic competitions, recognised by both the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the wider international community. It was established on 19 July 1908, following the.Summer Olympicsconclusions of the 1908.

Initially, FINA's founding members included the swimming federations of Belgium, Britain, Finland, Denmark, France, Germany, Sweden, and Hungary. Over the years, numerous other federations have joined, bringing the total number of affiliated federations to 209. These members are organised into 5 continental associations: the African Swimming Confederation, Swimming Union of the Americas, Asia Swimming Federation, European Swimming League, and Oceania Swimming Association.

The First FINA World Swimming Championships

Although FINA was established in 1908, the inaugural FINA World Championships did not take place until 1973 in Belgrade, Yugoslavia. This event was held at the Tašmajdan Sports Center from August 31st to September 9th, 1973, attracting 686 athletes from 47 nations. Today, these Championships draw over 2,000 athletes, showcasing the growth of the sport.

Evolution of the Championships Schedule

Between 1978 and 1998, the FINA World Aquatics Championships were held every four years. This four-year cycle meant the World Championships took place in the even-numbered years between the Summer Olympic Games. However, significant changes were introduced in 2001. Moving away from a four-year gap, the Championships have since been held every two years.

The most recent World Championships was the 18th FINA World Aquatics Championships, held in Gwangju, South Korea, from July 12th to July 28th, 2019. This event saw participation from 191 nations, along with a Refugee Team of FINA Independent Athletes. Unfortunately, the 2020 and 2021 events had to be cancelled due to the global Covid-19 pandemic.

Despite these recent postponements, the event is set to return. The 19th FINA World Championships are scheduled to take place from June 18th to July 3rd, 2022, in Budapest,Hungary, while the 20th FINA World Championships will be held in Fukuoka,Japan, from July 14th to 30th, 2023. Many enthusiasts in Ghana eagerly anticipate these global aquatic events.

When betting on sport tournaments that cut across different disciplines, the most important thing is understanding the different sports, gameplay, and rules. In this case, it's essential to understand how the six aquatic sports are played, the objective, and, importantly, the betting options.

After understanding the different games in the tournament and how they are played, the next step is to find a bookmaker with FINA World Swimming Championships markets as not all bookmakers cover water sports.

The third and most important is to understand the current form of the different athletes and teams. Some athletes and teams are favorites while others are underdogs. The rule of the thumb is, the lower the odds, the higher the chances of the bet coming through, and vice versa.
